2007 Annual Education Conference

“Home Inspectors Helping Home inspectors”

On behalf of the Kentucky Real Estate Inspectors Association Inc. (KREIA), I hope that you have had an excellent year.

You are invited to attend KREIA's March Education Conference for Home Inspectors at the Holiday Inn North - Lexington, March 15-17, 2007.

This year’s theme is truly, what KREIA is all about

“Home Inspectors Helping Home Inspectors”.

The KREIA Education Conference offers “pre-approved” Kentucky State required continuing education that meets the requirements for renewing your license in 2007.

However, a larger piece of the big picture; what this conference provides that cannot be quantified in a dollar value or in a licensing law is the ability for you, the home inspector, to meet with and exchange ideas and learn from fellow home inspectors. This is where KREIA and its membership truly benefit by being “Home Inspectors Helping Home Inspectors”.

KREIA has set up a special room rate with the
Holiday Inn Lexington-North just for you. To benefit from this negotiated special rate of $82 RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO February 27, 2007. As a KREIA Conference attendee, several meals and the Friday Night Banquet Dinner are included!

Bring the spouse and kids! The Holiday Inn Lexington-North has a large Holidome facility with an indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, exercise room, indoor basketball, and interactive video game room. Go site seeing and visit the local attraction such as the Kentucky Horse Park, Rupp Arena, UK Basketball Museum, Horse Farms, Shaker Village, Keeneland, and how about the Children's Science Museum!

This year for the first time a dedicated area will be set up for conference attendees Spouses / Guests, so bring the significant other with you and let them enjoy the free time and fellowship with others that support or are actively participating in the home inspection business. Off site trips may be scheduled, however, costs are not included in conference fees, and each person is responsible for any costs incurred.

Kentucky Home Inspectors are encouraged to join KREIA!

“Home Inspectors Helping Home Inspectors”

As a KREIA member, you will benefit from affordable continuing education in addition to other benefits. KREIA as an association is active in the ongoing task of monitoring the Kentucky legislative and the Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors activities. Keep in mind KREIA is here to help the KREIA home inspector; our interest is the individuals that constitute the Home Inspection profession and not big business.

KREIA’s primary reason for being in existence is for the betterment of the KREIA Home Inspector. As a KREIA Member you receive a voice from the only STATE ASSOCIATION.  Our current membership is approximately 90 members at the time this is being written.  This is nearly one third of the Kentucky Licensed Home Inspectors and we expect continued growth.

With this membership, KREIA has a strong presence and representation in areas that affect the Kentucky Home Inspector. In the past year KREIA has represented its membership at the KBHI meetings and promoted the KREIA membership at the Kentucky Association of Realtors (KAR) Annual conference in Owensboro, and continues to promote the membership on our web site.

www.KREIA.org
has an outstanding web presence and when Googled comes up #1 for "Kentucky Home Inspectors".  This makes the new regional INSPECTOR LOCATOR a valuable advertising tool for our membership.

The KREIA Website is averaging about 15,000 hits per month over the last year. KREIA continues to work with the National Associations in promoting good relations, and continues to work on accepting conference credits for their membership requirements.

KREIA’s Board of Directors met for an extended period recently to discuss what KREIA membership needs and is currently researching new opportunities to provide membership with added benefits.  If you have any input, please contact us.  president@kreia.org

Thank you to all of our long-term members and those that have recently joined KREIA.  At the 1/13/07 KREIA Board meeting, the board approved and welcomed over 25 new members.  Applications are continuing to be received and we expect to have in excess of 100 members prior to the conference!

KREIA has maintained a low $120 annual membership fee and has generously waived the $30 application fee for those that apply prior to the conference.

UNDERSTANDING KENTUCKY HOME INSPECTORS CONTINUING EDUCATION NEEDS

Per the Kentucky Home Inspector Licensing Law, the State requires all Home Inspector licensees to renew their license in their birth month in 2007.

The education conference is in plenty of time for those with a March or later birth month!

However, the previously announced Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors (KBHI) amnesty for inspectors with birth months of Jan and February has been rescinded.

KREIA's March Conference will not provide the required continuing education for those with birth months of January and February.

The continuing education requirements are different for grandfathered/alternative inspectors and the inspectors applying under the standard application form to (KBHI).

The differences are:
Alternative Licensed Inspectors (Grandfathered)
Inspectors are required to obtain 15 hours of continuing education by the end of their birth month in 2007.
815 KAR 6:010 Section 6(2).

Standard Licensed Inspectors (Standard Application)
Your continuing education requirements, (14 hours per year) are only required if you have had your license for 12 months.
815 KAR 6:010 Section 7(1).

After that every licensee has to get 14 hours of CE per license year.
815 KAR 6:010 Section 7(2). The first persons affected will be those whose birth month is July. It would probably be a good idea to obtain your continuing education hours now.

*Standard Licensed Inspectors (Special Circumstances)

If you made application and received your license due to special circumstances, but still do not have the required courses per the "Alternative/Grandfathered" requirements, then you will be required to obtain these requirements by your birth month in 2007 as well.

KREIA recommends that you verify your individual continuing education requirement needs with the KBHI in the event that the identified circumstances do not seem familiar to you.

Contact information for KBHI can be found here:
